$258 Million Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Missouri

April 22nd, 2010

The Winning Powerball Numbers are in (11, 34, 41, 49, 55, Powerball was 20, the Power Play multiplier was 2) and a single ticket has taken the mammoth jackpot. The ticket, sold somewhere in Missouri, is worth over $258.2 Million or $124 Million in a one time lump sum payment.

Powerball ticket sales were averaging around $20 million/day for the past 4 days as true lotto hysteria was starting to kick in.

The giant jackpot comes just 5 weeks after Sandra McNeil , a New Jersey resident, won $211.7 Million and now holds the record as New Jersey’s single largest lottery winner.

More mega jackpots this summer? I expect we’ll see a $300 million jackpot soon. Lottery hysteria doesn’t die as quickly when you get two mammoth jackpots back to back with unemployment around 10%.

Ohio Powerball Lottery Ticket Sales Start In One Week

April 10th, 2010

Powerball Lottery tickets will go on sale on April 16th for the first time in Ohio’s history. While Ohio lotto players have been able to play the Mega-Millions multi-state lotto for years, many residents have continued buying Powerball tickets from bordering states.

Ohio can now keep this money inside the state as well as take advantage of the huge branding efforts of Powerball. Giant Jackpots have been fueling high volume sales for the past several months (currently the jackpot is above 150 mil for the 2nd time in 4 weeks).

41 other states plus Washington DC & the Virgin Islands already enjoy Powerball.

With more than 80% of the States in the Union playing Powerball, how long before the other 9 jump in and we have a nationwide lotto? Powerball jackpots would likely reach $500 million+ with national participation.

Powerball Lottery Jackpot Back Above $150 Million

April 8th, 2010

With no winners Wednesday night, the Powerball Jackpot has now grown to an estimated $150. Lottery players are expected to turn out in huge numbers to purchase tickets for Saturday’s Drawing.

It’s been less than 3 weeks since a New Jersey man claimed over $211 million by matching 6 numbers.

Lottery fever is catching on as more news headlines are given to lottery winners and the economy continues to worsen.

In other Powerball news, a $200,000 winner recently gave the clerk who sold him the ticket $740. I think stories like this are awesome.

Good luck to everyone in Saturday’s Drawing.

Powerball Lottery Jackpot One Step Closer to $100 Million

January 3rd, 2009

Lottery officials are estimating Sunday’s Powerball Jackpot to be roughtly $90mil after there were no winners for Wednesday’s $80mil Powerball drawing. There is a chance this jackpot could go parabolic after Florida residents can legally buy powerball tickets in their own state starting next week. A perfect storm is brewing as the mega jackpot reaches a frenzy level, and the largest state thus far joins the Powerball in the same week.

Florida Powerball – It’s Here

December 29th, 2008

This Sunday will be the first time in Powerball’s 16 year history that Florida residence could buy the tickets in their own state.  Florida lottery officials explained there had been a long term debate raging on if allowing Powerball ticket sales would draw away from Florida’s own state lottery.

Florida will now be the largest state offering Powerball tickets.   Some experts predict a “lotto fever” as initial sales will quickly boost the Powerball Jackpot, which is already close to $80mil.   Recently announced changes to the Powerball Game should also increase interest over the short-term in the 29 other states that already sell Powerball Lotto tickets.
